Helmet Requirements for Street Legals...

Unread post by ColinSpallin » Thu Apr 16, 2009 8:07 pm

What exactly is the requirement for a helmet for the Street Legals? DOT, SNELL? Will the track let you use a streetbike helmet in a car, or is a car only helmet required?

I'll take a shot that this is what the rules would be - Per the IHRA rules :

IHRA Race Track Rules

- Snell 90 or newer helmets are required for everyone. (From the IHRA book)

- All vehicles must have a coolant catch can which is basically an over-flow bottle that catches coolant should your car over heat. Most cars come standard with a catch-can, however, older cars may not have one.

- Fuel lines - You are allowed a maximum of 12 inches of rubber hose for connection purposes only. Rubber portion may not pass flywheel area. Do not show up with rubber hose running from the gas tank to the carburetor. You will not pass tech!

- Roll bars/cages - be familiar with the rules regarding roll bars and cages. There is an ET breakdown for requirements in the IHRA rule book.

- Reverse lock out and neutral safety switch are mandatory. If your vehicle starts in gear, you will not pass tech.

- Your battery must be mounted solidly - No rope, tape bungy cord hold downs. If it is mounted in the trunk or hatch you must have an electrical disconnect switch. The switch must shut the electrical system down and also shut the car off when turned to the off position.

- All drivers MUST be wear long pants. "Sleeveless" type shirts or tank tops are NOT allowed. Be familiar with the IHRA rules regarding protective clothing the quicker you go the more you need.

- Nitrous oxide bottle(s) located in driver compartment must be equipped with a relief valve and vented outside of compartment (blow down tube)

Again this is just my info please feel free to correct me or add to this list
