Racing News: Jason Meyers Looks to Keep Gold Cup Trophy in California
|
 |
Chico, CA— September 4, 2008—Since the 1978 inaugural Advance Auto Parts World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series season, the Gold Cup Race of Champions has been contested 30 times in the state of California, and just twice has a driver from the Golden State been victorious in it, with Johnny Anderson taking the checkered flag in 1980 and Darrell Hanestad in 1989. Jason Meyers hopes to add one more California driver to that list, if he can with the 55th Annual Gold Cup Race of Champions this weekend at Silver Dollar Speedway in Chico, California.
The native of Clovis, California first competed in the Gold Cup in 1997 and has six Top-10 finishes in the event, including five in a row. He finished a career-best fourth in the 2003 Gold Cup. Last year he was seventh in the finale of the famed race which drew 103 cars.

And, at next season's end, the Lucas Oil Sprint Car Series champion will collect the $60,000 championship share, with the top ten in final points each earning a minimum of $10,000 and 15th in points collecting $5,000.
"This distribution of the quarter of a million dollar point fund makes for a very substantial season-ending payout to each of the top fifteen teams that support the series over the entire year," commented ASCS President and Founder Emmett Hahn.

|
 |
Cottage Grove, OR— September 2, 2008— Donny Schatz only gets to race at Cottage Grove Speedway in Oregon once a year, but it’s always an event that he looks forward to. After all, he earned his first Advance Auto Parts World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series A-Feature win at the track in 1998. Since that race, he has added 82 more A-Feature victories, including on Tuesday night at the high-banked Ľ-mile, as he took home the $10,000 top prize.
The two-time defending Advance Auto Parts World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series champion took the lead from Jason Meyers on the 28th lap and then held off Craig Dollansky down the stretch to earn his 13 A-Feature win of the season.

Racing News: Kraig Kinser Grabs Win at Grays Harbor Raceway
|
 |
Elma, WA— September 1, 2008— Kraig Kinser has had his fair share of ups and downs this season as he returned to full-time competition with the Advance Auto Parts World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series. Each time his Tony Stewart Racing team looked to have things turned around, bad luck would strike them again. That all changed on Monday night at Grays Harbor Raceway in Elma, Washington, as the third generation driver picked up his first A-Feature win of the season in the 30-lap event.
Kinser took the lead from Washington native Jayme Barnes on the 24th lap in traffic and used a strong restart with two laps to go to pull away and claim the $10,000 victory, which was the eighth of his Advance Auto Parts World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series career.
“This is awesome,” said Kinser. “I am tickled to death. I have to thank Tony (Stewart) for giving me the opportunity in this deal. I’m happy to get the 20 car rolling again. Hopefully we can keep this momentum going through the end of the year.”

Racing News: Ramaker Sweeps Montana Track Championships
|
 |
After sweeping the BSST at Gallatin Valley Speedway on Friday night Smokin Joe Ramaker was well on his way to his fourth win in a row on four different tracks. Charging from 18th to the lead Saturday at Electric City Speedway in Great Falls, Montana, a flat left rear tire with four laps remaining left Ramaker in fourth place which was enough to make him track champion at all three Montana Sprint Car tracks.
One week after sweeping the races at Billings Motorsports Park and picking up the 2008 points championship at that track, a strong field of cars from Montana, Canada, and Washington presented a worthy challenge over the Labor Day racing weekend. At Gallatin Valley Speedway in Belgrade, Montana on Friday night Smokin Joe came from his 5th place starting position to take the lead on lap six in heat race action. Ramaker would lead every lap for the rest of the evening taking home both the cash dash and the main event from the pole position. The victory, his fifth on the season, brought home the second track championship of 2008.

Racing News: HUNSINGER AND STYRES WIN SATURDAY NIGHT FEATURES AT BRIGHTON
|
 |
by Tommy Goudge (August 30, 2008) -
A large crowd filled the stands at Brighton Speedway on Saturday night
to witness the 6th annual Southern Ontario Sprints Labour Day Classic,
with the knowledge that they would see the SOS championship decided at
Brighton on Labour Day weekend for the first time ever. Heading into
the evening, Ohsweken's Glenn Styres held a slim 8 point margin in the
standings over Warren Mahoney of Lefroy, while Alton driver Keith
Dempster and Adam West of Ridgetown were further back, but still in the
hunt as well. With a makeup feature rescheduled for the night after
rain halted the program at Brighton on July 12, 3 points-paying features
were scheduled for the weekend, creating many possible outcomes in the
standings.
