Racing News: Wilson Jets to Victory Lane at Brighton SOS Opener
|
 |
By Tommy Goudge (May 10, 2008) - A familiar face graced Brighton Speedway's victory lane on Saturday night when Joyceville, Ontario's Rick Wilson won the opening event for the Southern Ontario Sprints 2008 season. It was Wilson’s 3rd opening night victory at Brighton and his 12th career SOS feature win all time at the speedway, a traditional stop on the SOS tour.
John Burbridge, Sr. and Jeff Daniels brought the field down for the green flag with Burbridge taking command going into turn 1, but his lead would be short-lived. “The Joyceville” Jet lined up on the outside of the 3rd row at the start of the 20 lap A Feature and quickly moved through the field, advancing to 3rd before the completion of the first lap. Wilson then quickly got by the #20 of Daniels and moved around Burbridge, Sr.’s #21j during lap 3 to take a lead he would never relinquish. Wilson's victory was not uncontested however, as Glenn Styres had advanced quickly from his 5th starting position. “The Ohsweken Flyer” closed in on Wilson's Focus Eye Centres #42w after a brief battle with Burbridge, Sr., which set up an entertaining duel during the second half of the 20 lap feature.

Pittman Looks for First Win at Lernerville in First Commonwealth Bank Clash
Sarver, PA— May 12, 2008— Daryn Pittman has visited the winner’s circle at some of the most famed tracks in all of sprint car racing during his career, including: Eldora Speedway, Manzanita Speedway, Silver Dollar Speedway and Williams Grove Speedway. One track that is missing from that list is Lernerville Speedway in Sarver, Pennsylvania. He has come close on a number of occasions to winning at the high-banked four-tenths mile which has hosted the Advance Auto Parts World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series each and every season since 1979.
Pittman will have two chances this season to pick up a win at the track, with the first of those coming on Tuesday, May 13 in the First Commonwealth Bank Clash. Last season, he finished third in the Don Martin Memorial Silver Cup at the track and has finished fourth or better in three of his last four starts at the facility. In his career, he has seven Top-Five finishes at Lernerville Speedway.

Racing News: LABOUR DAY CLASSIC WEEKEND JUST GOT BIGGER
|
 |
An SOS tradition that began as a part of the Canadian Sprint Car
Nationals at the Ohsweken Speedway is no longer. The SOS season ending
event will no longer be the SOS Championship Invitational at Ohsweken
Speedway. With the move to weekly sprint car racing at Ohsweken and the
success of Ohsweken’s Canadian Sprint Car Nationals, the SOS Season
finale will now be shifted, to become a part of Brighton Speedway’s
Annual Labour Day Classic to be held August 29 & 30.
In an effort to further grow the already successful Labour Day Classic,
The feature winners share of the purse has been raised. The feature win
will be worth $800 on Saturday and $1200 on Sunday. If a driver sweeps
both nights features, he will walk away with $2000 for his weekends work.

Witchita, KS- It’s good to be Gary Taylor these days. The defending SMRS and former ASCS – Rocky Mtn. Region champion just pulled off a weekend sweep in his #5* Tel-Star Communications XXX chassis. What’s particularly notable about Taylor’s weekend is that he picked up the first ever win for the XXX Midget chassis at I-81 Speedway in Witchita, KS. Taylor is piloting the prototype XXX Midget that made its debut at this year’s Chili Bowl. Research and development will continue throughout the ’08 on the XXX Midget, with production dates still to be determined.
